What are dermal fillers or what is Hyaluronic acid?
Dermal filler or hyaluronic fillers are synonyms i.e. fillers we use to compensate for the lost volume of the skin (skin folds and wrinkles), for shaping the contours of the face, hydration and skin rejuvenation and non-surgical correction of the scars. Over the years, due to the aging process, together with collagen and elastin, body loses its ability to produce hyaluronic acid and the skin begins to lose its’ moisture, elasticity, strength and volume, which leads to dehydration of the skin and formation of wrinkles.
What are the advantages of dermal fillers?
Hyaluronic dermal fillers have in recent years become the gold standard for filling facial wrinkles. Here, at the Centre for Aesthetic Medicine Medikol, we use only luxury high quality dermal fillers. They are biocompatible products; i.e. they biologically biodegrade in your body in a way that is natural and safe and disappear from your body when it is fully absorbed. The advantage of modern fillers is that they aren’t permanent and it is not necessary to test for allergies because they are not of animal origin unlike collagen filler which are derived from animal collagen.
What causes wrinkles?
Wrinkles are usually categorized into two categories: dynamic and static wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are present when the facial muscles are active. Examples of dynamic wrinkles include worsening of crow’s feet when smiling or forehead lines with eyebrow movement while static or gravitational wrinkles, on the other hand, are present while your facial muscles are at rest. That is, you are not smiling, talking or eating. Static wrinkles are present all the time due to aging, degenerative changes and loss of elasticity of the skin, loss (atrophy) of subcutaneous fat and because of reabsorption and bone loss.
Static and dynamic wrinkles can be treated with dermal fillers during which existing wrinkles are leveled, the skin over the place we treated wrinkles is tighten and as a final result you get a fresh, youthful appearance and effect of non-surgical face-lifts. With dermal fillers we can treat any wrinkles anywhere on your face, neck or body. The figures below show the wrinkles on the forehead treated with dermal fillers instead of Botox. Dermal fillers treatments are recommended also for rejuvenation of hands. Treatment begins with facial cleaning, applying anesthetic cream and giving it time to take effect. We then inject filler to a place we’ve decided to treat finishing with gentle massage to achieve a uniformly smooth surface.
Is the treatment painful and how long does it last?
Prior to application of fillers anesthetic cream is applied so that the treatment is completely painless. Our clients tell us that the treatment alone is very pleasant and they enjoy in it! The treatment lasts approxima10-15 minutes and results are immediately seen. After the treatment you can normally return to your everyday life and your obligations. Due to the extreme brevity of the treatment, and his painlessness, dermal filler treatments, along with Botox treatments, are so-called “lunch-time” treatments that can be done during your lunch break.
Are there side effects?
Side effects are very rare. If they occur it is usually after the application of fillers; also slight redness may appear at the site of application followed by sensation of tightness but it quickly disappears. There may be swelling and bruising, which also disappear after 2-3 days. We must stress that the frequency of hypersensitive reaction is extremely rare: only 1 hypersensitivity response was recorded in 25 000 treatments.
