What is Botox?
Botox is a natural purified protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which has been applied since the early 70s in various medical fields, including neurology, ophthalmology and pediatrics, and it is used more than 20 years in aesthetic medicine. In the last ten years it has become one of the most popular and most effective aesthetic treatments to remove wrinkles and treating excessive sweating.
Botox treatment is simple and painless non-surgical treatment that takes only a few minutes and the results last up to 6-12 months!
What are ‘Smoking Wrinkles’?
Smoking wrinkles are wrinkles that occur around the mouth. The skin above the upper lip is very thin and has very little supporting subcutaneous adipose tissue. The lack of support and excessive use of muscles leads to premature wrinkles around the mouth and to the creation of “smoking wrinkles”.
Purpose of the treatment is to reduce wrinkles around the lips.
Effect of Botox on forehead wrinkles
After extensive examination of facial muscles and the face we get an insight into a tonus and strength and whether there are any asymmetries found in the function of muscles. Botox is carefully and precisely applied into facial muscles of a client to block the contractions of muscles that participate in creating horizontal wrinkles on the forehead. Botox blocks the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular connectors’ which leads to inability of muscles to contract and consequently they cease to pull the facial skin. The effect of Botox is localized to only those areas in which it is injected. The results of Botox can be seen in 3-4 days after application. In extremely hyperkinetic persons the Botox itself is not enough and they need to be additionally treated with dermal filers.
